Freelance Writing: How to Get Published in Print and Online Course overview
This highly practical training course covers the writing skills needed to impress your readers in print, online and on social media platforms: clients, editors or followers. The course will include getting and developing ideas, following a brief, pitching, and interview skills. You will improve your reporting skills, learn to research and integrate data, identify a target audience, and think creatively to attract new followers and match the needs of your target audience. You will see ideas though with a view to getting published.
Please note this is a course for non-fiction writers, freelancers, bloggers, content writers and influencers. It is not suitable for those looking to publish short stories, novels or poetry.
This course is equally not suitable for those wishing to improve their English.
Who is it for?
This short course is aimed at those interested in writing more effectively on behalf of clients or themselves. Led by an experienced journalist and delivered over 8 weekly lessons, the course focuses on how to get your message across, research and integrate data, pitch and incorporate interviews with experts and case studies and identify your target audience.

What will I learn?
Over the course of 8 weekly morning classes on the Getting Published short course, you will learn:
- To recognise a good story to develop into an article, opinion piece or to post on an online platform
- To interpret a brief to satisfy the needs of clients or sponsors
- To construct well-written stories
- To develop interview skills in order to integrate quotes or case studies
- To identify suitable outlets for your ideas
Assessment and certificates
Informal assessment will take place through group discussion, class room activities, and questions and answers sessions as guided by your tutor.
Students who attend 70% of the classes will receive a Certificate of completion at the end of the course.
Eligibility
No prior knowledge or experience required.
English requirements
Applicants must be fluent in written and spoken English.
