Hosted at City, St George’s, University of London on Wednesday 26 March, RoboWars 2025, was an electrifying robotics competition co-organised by the IEEE City Robotics Society, in collaboration with King’s College London (KCL) Robotics Society, that challenged students’ engineering innovation, mechanical design, strategic problem-solving and programming.

This high-stakes event brough together students, engineers, and robotics enthusiasts to design, build, and battle custom-built robots in a thrilling combat arena.

Highlights from the RoboWar Competition 2025

Each robot had to withstand intense mechanical duels while showcasing speed, strength, and adaptability in an enclosed arena. The competition fosters a multidisciplinary approach, incorporating mechanical engineering, electronics, and programming.

Whether a  seasoned competitor or a newcomer eager to learn, RoboWars 2025 offered an exciting opportunity for all to put their skills to the test.

Professor Golnaz Badkobeh is Head of the Department of Computer Science at City St George's, and was one of the judges of the competition this year.

She reflected on the experience:

Being a part of RoboWars reminded me of the value and importance of fun and friendship as a key part of learning and just how central this is to the core of what it is to be a student. It is through these kinds of efforts and events that friendships are formed. Friendships that can potentially last a lifetime.

I am really proud of our Computer Science and IEEE Robotics societies for creating such a wonderful community where students can participate in high-quality, supportive, but competitive and fun activities.
